Beginning a new and exciting phase in the history of the internationally renowned bridal and bridesmaids design house, Alvina Valenta, Jessica Williams has been named its new Head Designer by parent company JLM Couture.
Williams developed her style and reputation as a young and talented designer with the social dress division of St. Johns, and has contributed successful designs to the Priscilla of Boston Collections. The recruitment of Jessica is consistent with JLMs strategy to discover, attract and promote new bridal designers with strong ready-to-wear backgrounds, said Joseph L. Murphy, president and chief executive officer of JLM Couture. Introducing a strong sense of fashion into the bridal market each season is more important than ever. Todays bride continually evolves in her sophistication about style and trend.
"There's a very unique family environment at JLM, which to me is so very appealing, compared to the big corporate culture. Its extremely supportive," Williams noted.
The collection has always been beautifully proper and refined, said Williams. Although my designs will continue to reference classic Alvina silhouettes, I also plan to introduce a soft, youthful touch with more airiness and fluidity that will give the line a dreamier, more romantic look.
Alvina Valenta gowns are known for their timeless elegance, sophistication and most especially their attention to detail. One of the collection's most successful looks is the fluted silhouette.
Williams said she plans to update the sophisticated tradition of the line by introducing new silhouettes, combining a mix of different beading and fabrics.
I expect this fresh approach will soften the collection, giving it a more organic feel, Williams said. Of course, we will always look to the runway collections recognizing and respecting the more enduring trends introduced there.
Hayley Paige, head designer of the Blush and Hayley Paige bridal collections, made a jump start in fashion by interning for Nina Garcia at Elle magazine while attending Cornell University. She went on to work in ready-to-wear for Jill Stuart after receiving honorary attention for her 10-piece bridal collection shown during her graduating year. Eventually, her dedication to all things creative led to designing and styling abroad where she developed an appreciation for European influences.
Paige established herself as an integral designer for the Melissa Sweet bridal and bridesmaid collections and was the primary designer behind the first Marchesa Eterna bridal collection at Priscilla of Boston. Her contributions can be found in highly sought-after bridal publications, as well as nation-wide bridal boutiques.
Ever so eclectic, her designs capture a romantic and charming aesthetic that balances inner ingénue and sophistication. Her interpretation of worldly influences and desire to dress hopeful romantics, have provided a foundation for a fanciful and fresh take on bridal wear. Never taking herself too seriously and fully embracing the adorning history of the bridal industry, Hayley Paige develops her craft from an inspirational place of appreciation and enjoyment.
Lazaro Perez, designer of the Lazaro and Tara Keely collections, is known for his impeccable fit and glamorous collections featuring exquisite beading and embroidery with dramatic silhouettes. With over twenty years of design experience, Lazaro is regarded as one of the industrys premier bridal designers.
Upon graduating from the renowned Ray College of Design at the Illinois Institute of Art, Lazaro caught the attention of a premier bridal salon in Chicago when he was awarded Best New Bridal Design in all three categories of bridal, bridesmaid, and mother of the bride. His design talent soon led him to New York, where he worked for the then prominent bridal house of Galina-Bouquet. From there he moved on to become the unaccredited designer of Richard Glasgows Riccio collection. Soon after JLM Couture president and CEO Joseph Murphy brought him into the JLM group and in 1994 launched the Lazaro collection of bridal and bridesmaid gowns. In February 2010, Lazaro was also named head designer of Tara Keely.
Lazaros work has frequently been recognized by the fashion industry and national news media. In 2001 he was awarded the Distinctive Excellence in the Bridal Industry (DEBI) in the category of Style Innovator for Bridal Gowns as well as Designer of the Year, and in 2004 Lazaro was given the Couture Bridal Award in the bridesmaid category by Wedding Dresses Magazine. Lazaro frequently appears on TLCs Say Yes to the Dress in New York and Atlanta, and WEtvs Girl Meets Gown. His designs have been featured on The Today Show, Good Day L.A., American Latino TV, and Fox Businesss Happy Hour.
When it comes to inspiration, Lazaro is hands on. He personally travels to many of his trunk shows to meet with brides, helping them choose the most flattering styles that best express their personalities.

Brides-to-be have the choice of something wholly original or the option to customize a signature design. Working with the finest silks, tulle, embroidery and lace, each gown is created one at a time, by a team of highly trained seamstresses and hand beaders, specializing in European craftsmanship.
Building Liancarlo has been one of the most difficult yet fulfilling experiences of my life-my life certainly has turned out differently than those of my friends from law school.
In 2001, Carlos launched his first bridal collection. The collection was immediately embraced by major retailers and exclusive bridal boutiques. In 2003, the New York Couture Bridal Associate and Wedding Dresses magazine awarded Carols, Best New Bridal Designer. In 2004, Florida International Magazine presented him with the Best Designer in Florida Award.
The Liancarlo collection is shown exclusively by appointment at 501 Seventh Avenue Suite 209 in New York City. The collection is available at fine retailers nationwide including Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue, as well as specialty stores throughout the United States, Canada, and South America. The collection retails from $1200 to $5000.
A prolific artist, Carlos, creative energy has recently fueled him to design a new log that will showcase painting of Liancarlo brides on their wedding day. The blog will be called Art Reflects Life. As for the future, Carlos intends to continue the evolution of Liancarlo to best meet the needs of his many loyal customers and to further pursue his artistic endeavors.
Philippine born fashion designer Monique Lhuillier captured the bridal couturier industry as the bridal gown designer to the stars. A graduate of LAs Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM), Lhuillier launched Monique Lhuillier & Company in 1996 with the help of her husband Tom Bugbee.
Lhuilliers designs are noted for being modern yet retaining the old romantic feel with very feminine, luxurious fabrics and dramatic skirts. Some of the stars that have worn her wedding gowns are Britney Spears, Pink and Christine Baumgartner. Recently, Lhuillier launched evening gowns and ready-to-wear to her line.
Victoria McMillian has been designing and creating timeless, romantic gowns for over 20 years. According to Victoria, an award-winning bridal designer,I feel the most important part of what I do is to make the bride feel beautiful in the way she looks, so that she exudes an air of confidence, grace and elegance.
This philosophy is readily apparent in the beautiful gowns that Victoria designs. Her attention to detail and focus on creating styles that will enhance a womans beauty are unsurpassed. Victoria believes giving a bride a feeling of sophistication and elegance is one of the most satisfying things she can do, so Victoria imparts a bit of herself in every gown she creates.
From a young age, Victoria always had a flair for the arts. Vivid recollections of sketching and drawing come to mind as she recalls early childhood. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Victoria always knew she wanted to pursue a career expressing her artistic abilities. It wasnt until late in High School that Victoria decided fashion would be the outlet for her creativity. Certain of her decision, Victoria turned down a partial scholarship in art, and focused her studies on fashion design instead. She graduated from Drexel Universitys Nesbit School of Art & Design (currently known as the Westphal College of Media Arts & Design.)
Victoria's foray into bridal design was quite serendipitous. After applying for a position in WWD simply marked design assistant, Victoria found herself at Christos, a renowned bridal design house. Upon meeting the designer, and being inspired by the walls of his framed magazine covers, Victorias interest in bridal bloomed. Victoria feels everything happens for a reason, and falling into bridal design this way, happened as it was meant to be. Upon gathering knowledge and experience in the industry, Victoria decided it was time to create and launch her own line. The collection was named after her dear grandmother, with whom she has many fond memories. She designed, managed and tailored the line for almost 20 years. In this time, Victoria created signature wedding gowns that have been worn by thousands of brides, including Oscar winning actress Hilary Swank. In 2007, Victoria was awarded Couture Bridal Gown Designer of the Year for Classic Designs by Wedding Dresses Magazine.
In April 2010, Victoria launched a brand new company, Victoria Nicole. Wedded to designs that convey her own personal style and taste, the collection is glamorous yet romantic. Each Victoria Nicole gown is the picture of timeless elegance. Victoria notes, It is my intent to create styles brides can look back on many years later, and still love the way they looked on their wedding day. It is so very flattering to be chosen to be part of such a special day.

The most important thing to me is that women are happy and feel absolutely gorgeous in their gowns.

In 2001 while planning my own wedding, I was on the search for the perfect hair accessory. (I just celebrated my 10 year on 8/25/11 with my wonderful husband!) There was a specific look that I was going for so I set out to make it. After my wedding, I started selling my custom designed hairpins on EBay and became totally overwhelmed by the response and sales!
It was during the dot com phase- I was working as an HR manager in the tech industry and 75% of my companys workforce was reduced. I took a few months off and started creating more and more accessories for EBay, local boutiques and friends. In 2004, I attended my first bridal market in Chicago and the New York with our Haute Bride™ line.
Our designs are now available in over 150 retail bridal salons worldwide, and can be seen regularly gracing the cover and inside pages of the top bridal magazines, including Brides, Martha Stewart Weddings, Bridal Guide, Get Married Magazine, Wedding Belles and more. Our Flagship Salon is located in San Franciscos Marina District and our design headquarters are located in Los Gatos. Everything is handmade by a skilled artisan in our studio and we are proud to say that our designs are fully crafted in the USA!
In 2006, we proudly accepted the New Accessories Talent Designer of the Year award for the Couture Bridal Market in NYC. At Haute Bride™, we are committed to providing you with the most personalized service. Whether we meet with you in person, or via telephone/email, we promise to help create your own custom look for that very special day. If you are not able to visit our retail salon in San Francisco, make sure to visit Mon Amie Bridal Salon!
